Pau Gasol Has Reached An Agreement On A Two-Year Deal With The Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have been a veteran magnet in recent years. It makes sense, considering they have been arguably the most successful and well-run franchise in the NBA for over a decade, led by coach Gregg Popovich. The latest veteran to make the move over to the Spurs is Pau Gasol, who has agreed to a two-year deal with San Antonio.

Gasol’s deal is for two years and $30 million, but he has a player option after the first year, so he can enter free agency again next summer if he should so choose. It seemed inevitable that Gasol would leave the Bulls this summer as part of the mass exodus from Chicago. Toronto and Portland were also contenders for the future Hall of Famer, but Gasol was lured to San Antonio by the Spurs’ talent, history, and his relationship with Popovich.

Gasol is 35 now, but there is still a little spring left in his step, even if he isn’t the player he was in his prime. Of course, he will only be asked to be a piece of the larger puzzle in San Antonio, a team that knows how to take care of veterans and how to maximize their talents. Additionally, while this will likely inspire more murmurings about Tim Duncan retiring, this doesn’t necessarily guarantee that Duncan is done. Either way, Gasol puts himself in place to potentially win one more title in his career.
