Stephen Curry Broke His Own Record For Three-Pointers Made In A Single Game

The Golden State Warriors may not be operating at full power quite yet, but Steph Curry made his first huge statement of the season on Monday night, hitting 13 three-pointers to set the single-game record against the New Orleans Pelicans. He broke the mark of 12 that he previously shared with Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall by going 13 of 17 from behind the arc in a classically incendiary Curry performance.

It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen one of those games in which Curry just can’t miss, no matter how dumb or rushed the shot he takes would seem for another player. It’s as hot as he’s been since his return game against the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of last year’s Western Conference Semis, and it came as a relief for Warriors fans, who showered Curry with “M-V-P” chants in the second half.

This came just one game after Curry failed to hit a single three-pointer, breaking his NBA record 157-game streak of consecutive games with at least one three by going 0 for 10 in the Warriors’ loss to the upstart Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. With Curry’s breakout performance though, the Warriors didn’t run away from the winless Pelicans, only beating them 116-106.

Even if the Warriors aren’t all-encompassingly dominant, the fact that Curry can have a performance like this while Kevin Durant, who has normally led the team in scoring so far this season, takes a backseat just speaks to their staggering depth of star power. They still have some kinks to work out, but reports of the Warriors’ demise have been greatly exaggerated. The depth issues and lack of stopping power in the middle will be an issue, but this is still a team of stars who can light it up from anywhere.
