Remember the horribleness that was Stallone’s Judge Dredd movie? It’s not every film that can say it might be both the worst Sylvester Stallone film and the worst Rob Schneider film.
Well, there’s a new Dredd film in production that might actually be watchable, with Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek) playing Dredd. And now they’ve cast Olivia Thirlby, who you may remember as Juno‘s friend Leah, as Psi-Judge Anderson. Variety describes Anderson as “the telepathic rookie who shadows Dredd,” which is pretty comic-accurate. At least they’re not describing her as his love interest, like the Dredd-kissing Judge Hershey from the first film.
The $45 million film will be directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and the script is by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). Which is great, but all we really care about is that Dredd never takes off that damned helmet.
