A New ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer Drops Both Spoilers And Landmarks On The Audience

Here’s a philosophical question for you: How much can you actually “spoil” a movie like Independence Day: Resurgence? It’s not like we don’t know the aliens aren’t coming back to blow things up, after all, and nothing in this trailer will be a huge surprise if you’re a fan of the original movie. Still, if you want to stay away from any plot details, you should probably avoid watching this mega-trailer, which pretty much crams the whole movie into its five-minute run time.

Most of it is just footage from the last three trailers cut together into one big one, but there’s a bunch of new shots and scenes in there, as well. For example, apparently we’re going to see Will Smith’s character “buy the farm” in the movie, as the trailer features a quick cut of what appears to be a prototype jet crashing in the desert, in between his family looking at the camera mournfully.

There’s also a repeat of the “telepathy” sequence from the first movie, only with Bill Pullman’s former president Thomas Whitmore as the (un)willing medium. We also see the exact consequences of a spaceship so huge it has its own gravity on both buildings and human beings:

As for Sela Ward, it looks like she’ll get what is, most certainly, the best one-liner in the movie:

In other words, it’s pretty much exactly like the first movie in tone. We only hope Jeff Goldblum has his trusty MacBook handy to deal with those pesky alien operating systems. We’ll find out when it invades theaters on June 24.
