As “Monday Night Football” ratings-watchers can tell you, America loves Brett Favre. And on Sunday night, America got to watch Brett Favre lose to the Arizona Cardinals, which didn’t benefit the Minnesota Vikings, but certainly helped NBC to a ratings win.
Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 5.6 rating, comfortably ahead of the 3.9 rating for FOX and ABC’s 3.4 rating in the key demographic. CBS was fourth with a 2.4 rating.
Overall, NBC averaged an estimated 15.1 million viewers in primetime to go with a 9.1 rating/14 share. ABC moved up to second with a 6.7/4, followed closely by the 6.4/10 for CBS. FOX’s 5.7/9 was fifth.
NFL overrun helped FOX with the 7 p.m. hour with a 9.6/15 and a 6.1 rating in the demo. CBS’ “60 Minutes” was second with a 7.6/12 (aided, in some markets, by NFL overrun). NBC’s “Football Night in America” was third, edging ABC’s “America’s Funnest Home Videos,” which had a 4.5/7.
NBC moved into first at 9 p.m. with a 9.5/14 for the start of the Vikings-Cardinals game, which did a 5.8 rating in the key demo. CBS’ finale of “The Amazing Race” was second with a 7.1/11. ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” had a 6.1/9 to beat FOX’s repeats of “The Simpsons.”
The second hour of NBC’s football improved to an 11.6/17, with a 7.3 demo rating. ABC’s new “Desperate Housewives” was a solid second with a 9.1/13. CBS’ “Cold Case” did a 6.1/9 for third. FOX’s animation repeats stayed fourth.
NBC remained in first at 10 p.m. with a 10.4/17 for the football game. ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” was second with a 7.2/12 and a better-than-normal 3.7 demo rating. CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” repeat trailed.
