Billy Dee Williams Will Get A Second Chance At ‘Batman’ Thanks To ‘The Lego Batman Movie’

The LEGO Batman Movie is shaping up to inject a good bit of fun into the DC Universe, and the latest bit of casting news is a cool Batman deep cut. According to director Chris McKay confirmed on Twitter today that none other than Billy Dee Williams would be voicing the classic villain Two-Face.

This is a fun Easter Egg for longtime Batman fans, as Williams played district attorney Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s first take on the Caped Crusader in 1989. Unfortunately, Joel Schumacher had taken over the franchise by the time the character returned in Batman Returns, and Tommy Lee Jones took on the former hero’s transition into one of Batman’s most grotesque villains. Aaron Eckhart also played both sides of the coin in The Dark Knight.

Whether or not Williams will bring some of his trademark charm (he was Lando Calrissian after all) to the character or if he’ll go full on crazy remains to be seen, but either way, this is a real treat for fans. The tone of the early Batman films fits into the LEGO universe a bit easier than the gritty, serious Dark Knight trilogy and whatever the DC Universe is growing into now, so this is just all-around perfect casting.
