Mel Gibson’s ‘Passion Of The Christ’ Sequel Gets Some Assistance From Twitter

In a world where a huge percentage of Hollywood films are adaptations, remakes, or sequels, it shouldn’t be a surprise at all that Mel Gibson is working on a sequel to his 2004 film The Passion of the Christ. After the major movie studios passed on it because Gibson insisted it be done in Aramaic and Hebrew, it went on to become the highest grossing independent film of all time, raking in over $600 million dollars.

That pretty much makes a sequel inevitable, and now we know it’s in the works thanks to Randall Wallace, the guy who wrote the script for Mel’s other torture porn classic, Braveheart. Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter that the story would cover the resurrection of Christ, which is definitely a more feel-good portion of his story than the crucifixion covered in the first Passion.

Internet denizens reacted to the news of a sequel with their typical sarcastic humor, skewering the movie industry’s obsession with sequels and creating a definitive list of names and tag lines for the new Passion of the Christ movie. Here’s some of our favorites:

And if Mel Gibson isn’t interested in any of those options, perhaps he can take some queues from Family Guy, who came up with this take on Passion of the Christ 2 back in 2005.
