Last fall, Jennifer Lawrence made a series of somewhat surprising admissions to Vanity Fair, and their buried lede was her admission of a major crush on none other than Larry David. Even David seemed befuddled by the confession, as Lawrence was quite forward with a “feel it below the belt” comment.

After the shock wore off, David responded with a comment about Lawrence’s knees. He admitted the crush was “very flattering” but “kind of a shame in terms of timing.” David knows he’s got four decades on Lawrence, and unlike Woody Allen (and any number of actors like Jack Nicholson), he sees that as an obstacle. Well, the age difference did not deter Lawrence, who pursued her crush in person. During a discussion with Glamour over her single dating status (because she keeps saying she can’t find a date), Lawrence explained how her heart leads to unexpected places:

“No, it’s that I’m picky. I feel a spark very, very rarely. And it’s really only about spark for me. Not really anything else. You should see some of the people I find attractive. You’d be shocked … I gave Larry David my number. And he never called … which makes him even more attractive. I love that he didn’t call me. It makes him so much hotter.”

The journalist suggested that David has a “moral compass,” which is likely why he won’t pursue someone who could be his grandchild. That didn’t stop Lawrence from cracking a joke about her sexual response to David’s Bernie Sanders impression on SNL. If true (it’s not), she wouldn’t be the only one.

Lawrence finally conceded to not standing a chance with David, but now we know why she doesn’t date in typical Hollywood circles. Lots of folks were confused by Lawrence’s coupling with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, but she simply has offbeat taste. This gives men around the world hope that they have a shot with Lawrence, who (sadly) doesn’t have a shot with Larry David.
