Blake Lively Is Taunted By A Giant Shark In ‘The Shallows’ Trailer

The Shallows is a perfectly decent, if vague name for a movie. It could be about anything. A shallow ditch? A shallow grave? The death-metal band From the Shallows? If you want to make a film about Blake Lively being mocked by a giant shark, you don’t call it The Shallows — you name it Blake Lively Being Mocked By a Giant Shark. Anyway, The Shallows is about Blake Lively being mocked by a giant shark after she gets into a surfing attack and is stuck on a rock 200 yards from the shore. She’s less than 600 feet from safety, but the aforementioned sea beast (#TeamDryLand) blocks her path.

The Shallows has been described asJaws meets 127 Hours,” in that it’s about a person in a solitary location, and also sharks. Even the YouTube description boasts, “It’s Jaws for a new generation,” which is what they said about Open Water, too. That’s potentially giving it too much credit, but it’s a chance for Lively to show off her acting chops, the same way her husband Ryan Reynolds did in Buried. Who knows? Maybe in five years, she’ll be breaking box-office records as She-Hulk. Can’t be worse than that other green movie.

The Shallows comes out on June 24, hopefully with a new name.
