We’ve guessed for awhile that the original lineup of Black Sabbath, minus drummer Bill Ward but including vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, would release an album in 2013, but we didn’t know anything definitively; we’ve learned it’s best not to assume anything when it comes to the man affectionately known as the Prince of Darkness. But perhaps inspired by the recent reunion/new album announcements from Destiny’s Child, David Bowie, Justin Timberlake, and Outkast, the heavy metal legends confirmed that their 19th studio album, 13, and first with Ozzy since 1978’s Never Say Die!, is slated for release in June. According to Consequence of Sound:
Slated for release sometime this June via the band’s original label Vertigo/Republic, 13 was recorded in Los Angeles alongside veteran producer Rick Rubin and features Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums…Back in August, bassist Geezer Butler said they had recorded 15 tracks, with 12 making the final cut, including a song entitled “God Is Dead.” (Via)
Ah, “God Is Dead.” That’s the kind of subtlety we’ve missed from Black Sabbath.
