When’s the last time you’ve legitimately enjoyed a Song of the Summer? It probably wasn’t last year, when “Blurred Lines” was EVERYWHERE. Or 2012, the year of all things Psy. Was it 2009 for Animal Collective’s “My Girls,” or 2008’s “Time to Pretend” by MGMT? For me, it’s 2006, because that was the summer you couldn’t go to any party, sports game, or grocery store without hearing “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, and it ALWAYS sounded good. Still does, actually.

We’ve assumed for awhile now that Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” would be declared the Song of the Summer 2014, and now we have confirmation from the walking musical Wikipedia known as Questlove.

Have you weighed in on an official Song of the Summer?

I’m really caught in between, because this is what you gotta understand: I’m a DJ, and I’ve already established before on Twitter and elsewhere that you gotta know what the difference is between a good song and a bad song. Songs that I consider personally bad are also effective, and songs that I think are great don’t stick. For me, I think it’s a crime that Chromeo is not up there, because their level of pop songs — aw man, it’s everything I could ever want. It isn’t sticking. I want “Jealous” to win so bad, but it’s obvious “Fancy” is pretty much ruling the summer. (Via)

Questlove went on to say that he’s not an Iggy hater, or in his own words, “I’mma let Iggy be Iggy.”

He likes that sentiment.
