Marc Martel is a talented singer who claims Luciano Pavarotti and Freddie Mercury as important musical influences. He’s also one of the few vocalists on earth with the pipes to cover both of his idols.
And so that’s what he did, recording the opera classic “Nessun Dorma” as a “one-man duet” between the two vocal legends. Even more impressive: he recorded both parts in a single take. He calls it “The Mercurotti”:
This is one continuous performance from start to finish, shot in one take, using two cameras. No audio has been cut or replaced. (I added the “Pavarotti” harmony for “Vincero, Vincero!” afterwards, since I have yet to master singing in both voices simultaneously. Stay tuned, though.)
This isn’t the first time Martel’s Freddie impression has gained him notoriety. Three years ago, he was hand-picked by Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor to fill Mercury’s shoes for Queen Extravaganza, the roadshow that celebrated the legendary stadium rock band’s legacy.
