The Who performed at the legendary Nassau Coliseum Wednesday night as part of their 50th anniversary tour. Everything was going great until someone decided to spark up one of them jazz cigarettes. According to Newsday, Daltrey is very allergic to marijuana smoke and the amount of vapor floating toward the stage was enough for the singer to confront the audience member, who was then yelled at by the crowd to eat it. Even Pete Townshend told the concertgoer to shove the weed “up your f*ckin’ arse! That’s the quickest way!”
Newsday went on to add that “The smoke’s impact was almost immediate on his voice, which went from crystal clear and potent for the opening ‘I Can’t Explain’ to something rougher and more limited during ‘I Can See for Miles.'” Being the singer of one of the world’s biggest rock and roll bands and having an allergy to marijuana smoke is not very rock and roll, but you can’t really choose what you’re allergic to. What about “sex, drugs, and rock and roll?” Since Daltrey’s allergy is apparently so well-known, did The Who have the motto “sex, drugs (but no marijuana, Roger is allergic to the smoke), and rock and roll!”
