Animals have been releasing albums for years. Well, they don’t really “release” the albums. You never see, like, a zebra talking about their album dropping on Twitter. However, albums featuring animals as “musicians” have happened from time to time. Why, just this year internet cat Lil Bub released an album. On top of that, Christmas albums from animals have happened before. You ever hear those dogs barking “Jingle Bells?” Now, a different animal has released a Christmas album, but this one shouldn’t earn your contempt.
The album is called All I Want for Christmas is a Goat, and, naturally, it features goats performing eight classic Christmas songs. “Silent Night,” “Jingle Bells,” and songs in that vein, all made by the bleating of goats.
At the moment, you might be writing this off as a frivolous bit of kitsch worthy of nothing more than a brief moment of your time. Here’s the good part, though. The album was made by ActionAid, a charity group that provides goats for impoverished people. Goats are a good source of milk and wool, and they are hearty animals that can survive in dry climates that can’t produce much in the way of crops. Can they make good music? Clearly, but that’s beside the point.
So yeah, even if you don’t want to hear goats sing “White Christmas,” because you are a human of sound mind, maybe check out ActionAid anyway, if you are interested in helping out a good cause this holiday season.
