Fiona Apple’s ‘Tidal’ Is Getting Released On Vinyl For The Very First Time

Fiona Apple’s legendary debut album Tidal was not released on vinyl back in the summer of 1996 when it first came out, but just over two decades after it was first released, that’s about to change. In 2017, vinyl rules the world, and nobody is putting together exciting and interesting vinyl releases better than the subscription service and record club Vinyl Me, Please.

Uproxx Music is pleased to partner with them to share the news that they will release Apple’s Tidal as their exclusive Record Of The Month selection for May 2017. I wrote the liner notes that will accompany this new version, which you can read right here, and check out the brief snippet that was teased on Instagram yesterday:

Along with publishing a book on 100 Albums You Need In Your Collection on absolutely must-own on vinyl (which I contributed to), and selecting a monthly record for their subscribers, the site also publishes insightful, entertaining music journalism in their digital magazine and in their newsletter, The Standard.

As for VMP, they’re thrilled to be working with such an iconic artist to give her masterful debut record the pressing it deserves. Here’s a statement from Cameron Schaeffer, the company’s head of music:

“As a vinyl club we’re always on the lookout for essential albums in need of a reissue. In the case of Fiona Apple’s debut album Tidal, which never received a vinyl pressing at all, we found ourselves in the unique position to work with Fiona, her management & label on giving this masterpiece the treatment it deserved. Remastered from the original analog tapes at Sterling Sound and pressed on 180g black vinyl, our goal was to make this pressing both true to how it would have been released in 1996, as well as the definitive pressing for years to come. To hear tracks like “Criminal” and “Shadowboxer” on newly pressed vinyl feels like the ultimate way to experience the magic of Fiona Apple. We couldn’t be happier to see this come to fruition.”

Here are the specs on what the vinyl package will include:

— 2LP, 180g Black Vinyl
— 45 RPM
— Gatefold Jacket
— 12-page lyric booklet
— Remastered from original analog tapes by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound
— 12×12 Art Print by Wade Jeffree + Leta Sobierajski aka Ikko Ikko]
