Watch Robert Trujillo Of Metallica’s 12-Year-Old Son Perform With Korn For The First Time

Korn made their name– and subsequently helped define the idea of nu-metal — on their unique five-string bass sound. So, it’s a good thing that their newest member, the 12-year-old son of Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, knows how to simultaneously slap and headbang with the best of them. Replacing your bassist with a kid is still a stunt, but it’s a stunt with some weight behind it.

Check out fan-shot video of Tye Trujillo’s first performance with the ’90s rap-metal act in Bogota, Colombia up top and below. Clearly the band are confident in his abilities. they even gave the newcomer a solo at one point in the show.

It looks like fans who were upset when Korn announced the switcharoo will be eating their words as this little dude absolutely kills “Freak On A Leash” (and maybe that ill-advised Rihanna remix) for crowds throughout South America. Though Korn’s regular bassist Fieldy had to leave the the band’s tour due to “unforeseen circumstances,” he is expected to rejoin the band when they return to the United States for the Carolina Rebellion festival.

The band has yet to address their most extreme switch that they ever pulled on fans, the time that Jonathan Davis was secretly the president of the United States for eight years.
