Even though he just released the theme song for the latest James Bond movie, Spectre, it looks like Sam Smith is nowhere near as well-traveled as 007. The “Stay with Me” singer revealed that he used to believe Mexico was a region of Germany.
Smith called in to Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 program from Mexico to debut the new Bond theme. During the conversation, he also unveiled that he failed geography.
“I actually thought Mexico was near Berlin. I know, it’s so bad. I thought it was in Europe, then I realized it’s not. I’m more clued up now.”
Grimshaw felt the quote ringing in his ears long after the interview was over. He even took to Twitter to underline his disbelief.
Sam Smith thought Mexico was "near Berlin" SAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, that kind of thing could happen to anyone… who has never seen a map before. On a happier note, Smith seemed genuinely excited about getting the opportunity to perform the theme to Spectre.
I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time.

Reaction to “Writings on the Wall” has been mixed, but Smith did get one very important co-sign.
@samsmithworld has delivered a very haunting and wonderfully orchestrated #spectre theme song. Well done!
