I honestly didn’t think Selena Gomez and I had much in common, if anything. But you know, turns out I was wrong because the funny thing is, Ms. Gomez and I are both big fans of Amy Schumer. Now that’s what I call a conversation starter if the situation ever presents itself.
Gomez’ love of Schumer was revealed at this weekend’s Hollywood Film Awards, where Gomez presented Schumer with the Hollywood Comedy Award. Prior to presenting the Trainwreck star the award, Gomez gushed about her nerdy levels of devotion to Schumer and heaped praise on her for being a strong female voice in entertainment.
“Amy, you’ve inspired me not take myself too seriously when I sit on my couch and I’m depressed about certain things,” Gomez said. “You constantly made me feel I’m a bad ass even though most of the time I’m not. You say the things I wish I could say and you never ever make feel bad about anything I do in my personal life. “
Gomez also added that she talks “about her (Schumer) obsessively. I’ve tweeted her often. I try to impersonate her and it doesn’t really work.”
Rest easy, Selena. Trying to impersonate our favorite comedians never works. We either fail miserably or get in trouble. It’s just one of those things, girlfriend. And speaking of resting easy, Gomez joked that she was just glad to be there, saying, “I’m really happy that clearly Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t able to do this tonight because I love you.”
Hey, it’s a valid concern because it’s become very common knowledge that JLaw and ASchu have become besties. But no worries, Selena!
“I didn’t even ask Jen,” Schumer said. “Selena, you were my first choice.”
Aww.
And with that, the Schumer Squad was able to steal a member of the Swift Squad away, moving one step forward to taking the world back from the ruthless dictator Taylor Swift and her diabolical Swift Squad.
