The Detroit Tigers pitching staff tried their best, but they only committed one error in Detroit's interleague series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. Tigers first baseman Sean Casey had some fun with second person voice after the game:
"You wish we would've swung the bats like this in the World Series," said Detroit's Sean Casey, who was one of the Tigers' few offensive standouts during the 4-1 series loss last fall. "You wish it was for all the marbles."
Uh, what? I think what "the Mayor" is saying is that it was a hollow victory, or that the Tiges should have shot all their Taws at the Card's Aggies last October because it was for keepsies.
In other Interleague games:
Florida sweeps Tampa Bay as thirty-eight senior citizens look on in wonderment. When there are two professional teams of the same sport, can one really claim the name of the state? I guess it's alright if the other team is the Devil Rays.
The Angels sweep the Dodgers in the battle of Los Angeles. The blue team decided to spot the red team 26 outs before scoring today – not a good idea.
The White Sox salvage one win against the Cubbies, although the Southsiders' bullpen attempted to blow an eight run lead this afternoon. Pale Hose relievers combined for 5.2 innings over the 3 games where they allowed 15 hits, 13 runs – 11 earned, 4 walks, and 2 home runs – one of them a pinch-hit grand slam by Derek Lee. I believe that works out to a 17.46 ERA, but I have been drinking J.J. & S since Friday. At least the Sox plated 10 today, the last AL team to do so this year. Bravo fellas, each game you play subtracts a year from my liver. -KD
