Watch This Boxer Plead With The Ref To Stop The Fight While Pulverizing His Opponent

Here’s something you don’t see every day.

A heavyweight bout in New Zealand was stopped not because of a ref, but because one boxer called for mercy on his opponent. Will Meehan was giving Leamy Tato the business in the corner of the ring, pummeling him with brutal shots to the head and body. Tato tried to protect himself, but the punches kept landing, each one worse than the next. Finally, as the ref came in to break it up, Meehan screamed, “Stop the f*cking fight.”

It was a bizarre scene to say the least.

No idea what the ref was thinking here. It’s as if he was oblivious to the massacre taking place right in front of him. It’s as if he didn’t notice the blood flying from Tato’s face, splattering all over the ring.

According to Stuff, a New Zealand publication, the fight should have been stopped after the first round. Meehan admitted to “holding back” on punches to start the second round out of concern for his opponent.

“But I think when the ref sees it’s an obvious outclassing he should step in earlier.

“But it’s the hurt business we are in. I got the job done and he’s safe, he’s on his two feet at the end of the night.”

Meehan, 20, is a former rugby league player for the Sydney Roosters. He says he wants to return to the sport one day, but from the looks of it, he appears to have a future in boxing.
