Steve Smith sure is going out with a bang in his last NFL season.

Not only is he third in the league thus far in receiving yards with 374, but he also cannot stop getting into trash-talking wars with his opponents.

After giving his own personal review of the Bengals secondary last week, Smith had some words for Steelers’ safety and former Carolina Panthers teammate Mike Mitchell, who Smith believed speared him in the back on a play that knocked him out of the game. This despite the fact that replay confirmed that it was in fact Lawrence Timmons.

Mitchell did get in Smith’s face after the play, but he was not the one who gave Smith a lower back contusion. Nevertheless, Smith still had some pointed words for Mitchell after the game, telling reporters:

“I got speared in my back by an ex-teammate. I kinda know his character and who he is. After he hit me, he said, ‘How do you like that?'”

“The best thing I could do without threatening him and saying, ‘I will assault him when I see him’ is I will say, ‘I look forward to playing him again, and he’s on my lifetime hit list.”

Smith is of course one of the top trash-talkers in the league (see: “Ice up, son“), but telling someone that they’re on your hit list and implying you may assault them is probably going just a tad overboard, and may not fly too well with the league office.

The Ravens and Steelers play again on December 27.
