A Sick Juke And A Brutal Block Helped Alabama’s Calvin Ridley Score A 60-Yard Touchdown

Alabama faced some trouble early on with Mississippi State Saturday afternoon, but began pulling away thanks to a 60-yard touchdown by Calvin Ridley. The freshman receiver did most of the work himself, taking a short swing pass from Jacob Coker out to the right and juking his first defender out of his shoes.

But the real break in the play came thanks to a cracking hit by Kenyan Drake, who planted a heck of a block on Taveze Calhoun, a senior defensive back. That block sprung Ridley down the sideline for the score.

Ridley leads the Tide with 68 yards on three receptions, though obviously most of those came on this one play. With moves like this, though, the freshman looks poised to be the next in a long line of former five-star recruits who carry the Crimson Tide towards another national championship.

With their win over LSU last weekend, Alabama has the inside line to the SEC Championship game and a spot in the College Football Playoffs as long as they can win out. While that’s no given in a conference as tough as the SEC, so far the Crimson Tide look right on schedule up 21-3 on the road at the half.
