Deep Sleepers And Waiver Pickups You Should Consider Playing In Fantasy Football Week 3

Week 3 starts/sits, plus more waiver options

Waivers have cleared, so now you have a better idea of how you’re going to be setting your lineup for Week 3. Depending on your luck, you could be in a solid position to win. Or, you just lost any combination of Ameer Abdullah, Danny Woodhead, Adrian Peterson, Jonathan Stewart or Doug Martin. Nasty. The fantasy gods are don’t want anyone to enjoy their season.

Here are some deep sleepers and possible waiver pickups that are still available that you should consider for Week 3.

DET RB Dwayne Washington

We don’t know exactly how things are going to shake out yet with Ameer Abdullah out for the year, but Dwayne Washington could be the best add in this whole RB mess if he slides into the Abdullah spot and Theo Riddick continues his work on passing downs. Washington looks like the complete back Detroit’s been looking for. Don’t worry about Zach Zenner taking touches from those two. In fact, he may be cut.

WAS RB Chris Thompson

If you’re desperate at RB, like so many are, and you also happen to be in a PPR league, Chris Thompson is worth stashing now, and playing in certain leagues immediately. There’s a reason why Washington loves him so much, and it’s for his pass protection. It’s sexy.

How can you deny this?

He saw less work Week 2, but still had 4 targets and can get work done in space.

MIN RB Matt Asiata not Jerick McKinnon

I won a championship two years ago thanks to Asiata, so I might be biased here, but there’s a good chance Asiata handles red zone work and catches the ball out of the backfield. He saw more touches and snaps than McKinnon after Peterson went down. Realistically, you need both of these guys, but even then, Minnesota now has…

The Ronnie Hillman question

If Minnesota was completely onboard with McKinnon and Asiata, would they go out and get Hillman? Perhaps they want the depth, perhaps. He may not be ready to play this week, but he’s worth a pickup in deep, deep leagues with 14+ teams.

NYJ WR Quincy Enunwa

The guy needs to be played in your flex position this week and every week. I’ve been banging the Enunwa drum since Week 1, now it’s time to get on board or lose out. He has a solid floor that even a 10-team league can get behind. He’ll see his 6 targets, he’ll see his single coverage, and he’ll chew up yards in the middle of the field.

Donte Moncrief has a fractured scapula, T.Y. Hilton is banged up, and Andrew Luck is going to have to throw it to someone. Dwayne Allen and Donte Moncrief seem to be the clear beneficiaries of these injuries and see a good amount of volume. Dorsett is seeing 5.5 average targets a week, and Moncrief was going to be averaging around 7, so you can expect extra work downfield against a mediocre San Diego defense who is giving up the 15th-most points to WRs. You have to think this game will end up a shootout, and the Colts are at home.

Cameron Artis-Payne NOT Fozzy Whittaker.

All of the news out of Carolina has pointed to Cameron Artis-Payne, not Fozzy Whittaker being the guy getting the most touches on the ground. Whittaker will likely still catch a few more balls, but Artis-Payne might be the goal line back. Not that you necessarily care about an end zone back when Cam has the ball, but hey, you might be desperate and who can sniff at 10-15 touches at a time like this? And he played admirably filling in for J-Stew last season.

TB RB Jacquizz Rodgers

Reports out of Tampa are saying Jacquizz Rodgers will be splitting carries with Charles Sims. Considering Tampa just signed Rodgers this week, and Sims is by far the superior talent, you would think that they’d lean on Sims, but there’s a good chance Rodgers is in on running plays to keep Sims in his usual role. Sims had over 1,000 total yards for the Bucs last season, and stays busy whether Doug Martin is there or not. He has a clearly defined role that works for the team and is perfect for it, so the Bucs probably don’t want to run him into the ground.

DET WR Golden Tate

Golden Tate has been a total disappointment this season. You may be thinking of benching him, but this might be the week he takes off. I know he’s not a deep sleeper, but he’s also fallen to WR3/4 range with his awful gadget usage. With Abdullah out, and with Tate averaging over 7 targets a game, he may see more looks and finally break something off.

SD RB Dexter McCluster

Dexter McCluster? More like Dexter McLackLuster! Hahaha! I’m so sorry. But seriously, maybe now, finally Dexter McCluster can be the guy we always thought he would be back when he flirted with PPR greatness back in Kansas City. San Diego signed the scatback to a contract after losing Danny Woodhead for the year, and he spent the last two years with Ken Whisenhunt in Tennessee, so McCluster should be able to slide smoothly into the Danny Woodhead role.

BAL QB Joe Flacco

Another week, another sweet matchup for Flacco, who is on pace to set a career amount of pass attempts. According to Rotoworld, Jacksonville has given up the 6th-most points to QBs this year, and Flacco looks good, especially with Mike Wallace. You can pencil him in for 2 TDs and possibly over 300 yards in what could be a goofy game that will go back and forth through the air.

DET QB Matthew Stafford

If you’re in a 10 or 12-team league, you might not be starting Matthew Stafford. Hell, he might even be on waivers considering he’s only 88% owned in most leagues. Pick him up, play him against Green Bay. Do not respect the Green Bay D, even in Green Bay. There’s no reason for the Lions not to chuck the ball all over the place.

Now let’s watch this again, even if it has no bearing on any fantasy team ever.
