I'm not sure if this was covered on Friday or over the weekend, since I was busy with Super Bowl duties, but Italian soccer fans rioted and killed a cop during the Catania-Palermo game on Friday night.
The trouble started in the 58th minute of the game between the Sicilian rivals when the contest was temporarily suspended after tear gas, used by police to halt rioting outside Catania's Angelo Massimino stadium, drifted inside and filled the stadium.
I don't know how many of you sexy readers are avid political activists, but in the Marine Corps, getting tear-gassed is part of basic training. I can't imagine a scenario where it helps in one's enjoyment of a sporting event. But there's good news: there's plenty of video! You can get the British commentary version here, but I tend to prefer the musical montage:
Naturally, I'm disappointed with the musical selection here. When I watch it now, I mute the video and put on Disturbed. Or if I'm feeling saucy, Les Miserables. Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men? It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!
(Thanks to hunktastic Josh for the heads-up.)
