Watch The Bizarre Moment When ‘Monday Night Football’ Is Interrupted By Protesters Hanging From The Rafters

Well, this is a first.

During Monday Night Football between the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, two fans rappelled from the stadium’s overhang and dangled there uninterrupted for quite some time. They were first spotted by cameras in the middle of the third quarter.

ESPN’s play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico:

“Hard to explain to you exactly what’s going on, but there were a couple of fans who were rappelling there with police officers right around them. I don’t know if it’s a banner they’re trying to unfurl or what. In any case, they’re just dangling there behind the upper deck; the second deck down to the first. And the police officers and the security at the stadium are checking on their whereabouts at this point. So, for whatever reason, they are.”

According to FOX 46 Charlotte, the goal of the stunt was to unfurl a banner that read “Bank of America Dump Dominion.” They appear to have succeeded, albeit briefly, according to these Twitter photos.

The group issued a press release demanding that Bank of America (who own the naming rights to the Panthers’ stadium) “stop financing Dominion Resources and its dirty LNG project at Cove Point.”

Four people were arrested as part of the stunt because, you know, you can’t do stuff like that.
