Ron Rivera Fell Asleep During The 49ers-Rams Game On ‘Monday Night Football’ Just Like We Did

Ron Rivera, just like the rest of us, fell asleep during the incredibly boring game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. It was the second half of a “Monday Night Football” doubleheader and started a little after 10 p.m. ET, so who could blame Rivera if watching the Rams punt a million times didn’t do it for him?

It’s one thing for you or I to fall asleep, but the Carolina Panthers coach had a real incentive to watch the game — his team plays the 49ers this week.

Try as he might, Rivera couldn’t get through a Blaine Gabbert-Case Keenum matchup called by Chris Berman.

From NFL.com:

“Unfortunately, I stayed up and watched. And the reason why I say unfortunately is I fell asleep somewhere in the beginning of the fourth quarter,” Rivera said during Wednesday’s press conference. “But I got to see three quarters of it.”

This will definitely be a thing if the Panthers lose this week. “Maybe he should have stayed up and watched the fourth quarter!” The real question is: Did Rivera falling asleep constitute disrespect for a football game that opened with a giant American flag stretched across the field? Is he protesting America? Or NFL games that end after 1 a.m. ET? Looks like a can of worms has been opened we will never close. Get back in there, worms!
