Corgi Friday: Royal Wedding Edition

By / 04.29.11

All week long, I was able to take the mounting media blitz for the royal wedding in stride, because I knew that I could use it as an excuse for a special royal edition of Corgi Friday. As you probably know, Queen Elizabeth II has had corgis since she was a young princess, and her lifelong, high-profile passion for the dogs helped raise awareness. She was like Corgi Friday before the Internet existed. And I have to say, she handled her ascension to┬áthe Crown pretty much the same way I would have. “Your Highness, as ruler of all England, we shall do your bidding.” “Get me a f*ckload of corgis.”
Anyway, what follows is a jubilee of royal corgis: a variety of pictures of the queen with her corgis, various corgis dressed as royalty, and whatever related ephemera I could fine. Basically, it combines two of my biggest passions: history and corgis in costume. Enjoy!

The corgis really make the costume.

Deceased royal aide William Tallon, known as “Backstairs Billy” due to his official title, “Steward and Page of the Backstairs.” Or maybe the nickname has something to do with dying of complications form AIDS. I’m not here to judge.

What a crazy old lady.

The Freeview HD corgis celebrate with a Guinness world record cake (world’s largest dog cake).

Here’s video of how the cake was made. The first minute and a half is super-boring, but then the corgis show up and eat the cake, which makes it worthwhile.
Once again, the Freeview corgis.

He’s better-looking than Prince William. Got a lot more hair, too.

I like to pretend that this isn’t Photoshopped. I prefer to think of the Queen as a batty old lady who dresses up her corgis instead of attending to international affairs.

These are the British-est cookies ever made. Thanks to @theskinnypignyc for making them.

She’s dressed in yellow, she says hello, come sit on my lap you fine fellow.

Paul Burrell, personal footman to the Queen, was once knocked unconscious when “nine leashed corgis pulled so hard that he slipped on the steps at Sandringham.” Haha, his job title is “footman.” Pervert.

Those corgis are all gonna need baths after being touched by commoners.
