What’s on Tonight: Michael Scott’s Last ‘Office’

The Office (NBC) — It’s the long-awaited, much-ballyhooed 50-minute final episode for Steve Carell, followed by a 40-minute Parks and Recreation. Did you see the Rent tribute the Scranton office gave Michael Scott the other week? I couldn’t decide if I thought it was appropriate for the characters or cloyingly sentimental. I just don’t think I’d break out into song for a boss whose social awkwardness and neediness led to him insulting me and my co-workers all the time. Oh, what’s that you say? TV shows aren’t real? WHAAAA????

NFL Draft (ESPN) — I guess it’s also on the NFL Network, but I don’t get that on Time Warner, so ESPN it is. If you’re sports-minded, pop open a beer and head over to KSK for a live-blog tonight.

Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis (Discovery) — Discovery kept the title nice and subtle. No need to alarm anyone.

Community (NBC) — Shirley gives birth tonight. For all the complaints about how the show is too often mired in its own meta-self-referential world to be funny, last week’s brilliant clip show managed to bring the laughs, tell a story, and set the bar just a little higher for other sitcoms.

Royal Wedding Crap (BBC America) — The wedding begins at 6:00 a.m. Eastern, coverage starts earlier than that, there are any number of royal wedding specials on TLC and whatnot. All I ask is that if you are sad enough to watch it, respect yourself and watch the BBC feed. Don’t encourage E! and TLC.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Dr. Phil and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) on Letterman; Chelsea Handler, Judd Apatow, and OK Go on Leno; Sofia Vergara (RAWR!) on Kimmel; Tom Selleck on Ferguson; and Ice-T on Fallon. Full listings.
