Weekend Preview: Big Premieres

Boardwalk Empire (HBO, Sunday) — Season premiere. Judging by the most recent trailer (see below), it looks like this season’s going to have more Richard Harrow (Jack Huston) and Chalky White (Michael K. Williams). HELL YES.

Saturday Night Live (NBC) — Season premiere. Alec Baldwin hosts with musical guest Radiohead. Ah, I look forward to another season of people complaining about “SNL’s” decline.

Fringe (Fox, Friday) — Season premiere. Hooray, “Fringe” is back! This is welcome news indeed for the five Warming Glow readers who watch the show.

A Gifted Man (CBS, Friday) — Series premiere. This is another pilot I watched and meant to review but didn’t because I’m lazy. Patrick Wilson stars as a handsome rich genius doctor who gets advice from the ghost of his dead ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle). The good: Wilson, Margo Martindale as his assistant, and the use of shooting on-location in New York. The bad: the unnecessarily cheesy premise.

The Good Wife (CBS, Sunday) — Season premiere. It’s probably a good move by CBS to put this on the “serious TV” night of Sunday, but my priorities are already in place: Sunday Night Football, “Boardwalk Empire,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Mad Men.”

Pan Am (ABC, Sunday) — Series premiere. If I can get my act together, I’ll have an advance review of this on Sunday afternoon. But don’t count on it, I’ll probably just watch football instead. (Preceded by the final season premiere of Desperate Housewives.)
