‘Veronica Mars’ Is Getting An Unusual Spin-Off Series

Veronica Mars has been off the air for seven years now, and it’s never been more popular. After a groundswell of support, and a massively successful Kickstarter campaign that changed the industry (for a little while, anyway), there’s a feature Veronica Mars movie coming out in March (premiering at SXSW, in fact), and my guess is that it’s going to do great numbers (and if you’re not caught up on your Veronica Mars, the entire series is available free to Amazon Prime subscribers, and you should watch the sh*t out of it, because it’s fantastic).

While the CW couldn’t get rid of the series fast enough back in 2007, it’s now bringing it back … as a web series, on CW Seed, the network’s home for original digital series. But here’s the unusual part, according to a tweet by Veronica Mars creator, Rob Thomas: It will star Ryan Hansen as as version of Ryan Hansen, a Veronica Mars actor trying to get a spin-off series based on his character, Dick Casablancas.

Got that?

This is really the only way this series works, because Dick Casablancas is a huge douche and would never merit his own series, but Ryan Hansen is fantastic, and this allows him to both be a version of himself and capitalize on the Veronica Mars brand.

Maybe the second season will see him trying to create a spin-off built around his Party Down character.

I think the most important thing to note, here, is that it will have nothing to do with Piz, because Piz is the worst.
