‘Friday The 13th’ Is Coming To Television, Might Feature A Time-Traveling Jason Voorhees (?)

Facts first: There’s a new, modern-day Friday the 13th television series being developed by some of the minds behind the movies (director Sean S. Cunningham and producer Robert Barsamian), and everyone is throwing around industry-speak quotes about building and/or maintaining the brand and how exciting it all is. Here, look.

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” explained Cunningham. Said Barsamian: “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

Fine. Great. But there’s also this, from the Deadline report…

Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have been set to script a storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods.

… and this from TV Line.

Though the new series will be set in present-day Crystal Lake — the setting of the original 1980 film — Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) are crafting a storyline that will show Jason in several different time periods.

Now, admittedly, I missed a bunch of the more recent Friday the 13th films, so maybe I’m just ill-informed on this one, but does … does that mean Jason Voorhees will have a time machine*? Is that what “re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods”/”will show Jason in several different time periods” means**? That Jason is going to hop in a time-machine at the beginning of each episode and crank the dial to some year in the past to terrorize people throughout history***? Or the future?! Because, brother, if that’s what that means****, count me in. I hope they save the “Jason vs. Hitler” episode for sweeps.

* That is probably not what it means.
** Again, probably not.
*** I mean, how would he even build a time machine?
**** Let me dream, okay?
