Late last month we got word that Hulu was in the early stages of perhaps resurrecting Community after NBC cancelled it, but we haven’t heard anything from either Hulu or Dan Harmon since then … until now.

At the BanffWorldMedia Festival yesterday, Harmon did confirm that Sony was in talks with Hulu about reviving Community for a sixth season, but Harmon wasn’t optimistic, though to be fair, Harmon is NEVER optimistic.

From the Calgary Herald:

“I know now that Sony was indeed talking to Hulu and Hulu is indeed interested. What I can’t say and what I’m pretty cynical about, just because I think it’s better to be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised, is that they could make anything happen. It’s a big cast full of talented people with a lot of options. And when all that is done, you’d have to make a deal with me and I wouldn’t want to do it without (writer producer Chris) McKenna. I think if you lost one piece of that puzzle – what if Yvette Nicole Brown wasn’t in the mood to do it anymore? We’ve already lost Donald (Glover), we’ve lost Chevy (Chase).”

With an in-demand cast and scheduling logistics to contend with, Harmon did not rule out an Arrested Development season four kind of deal, or even a spin-off:

“I think people would gladly watch Jeff and Annie living across the hall from each other in an apartment complex run by . . . Koogler? I don’t know,” he said laughing.

Koogler, of course, was played by Mitch Hurwitz, who Harmon is still working with on a potential comedy project that could maybe one day air on Netflix, but Harmon wasn’t ready to say much about it other than that it’s “a silly idea that takes one sentence to explain.”
