Yesterday at about 6:30 p.m. — in a post passing along the news that True Detective Season 2 will take place in California and feature FOUR lead roles, according to creator Nic Pizzolatto — I sat on my high horse and mocked all those silly, baseless True Detective casting rumors that have flooded the Internet since the first season wrapped up in March. Today, not even 24 hours later, here I am passing along potentially silly, potentially baseless castings rumors, as HBO has refused to comment on either of them. And aaaaaaaaaaaaaway we go.
Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” an individual familiar with the series told TheWrap, while Taylor Kitsch is also the leading candidate for the younger male lead. [...]
Insiders tell TheWrap that HBO was intent on landing a true movie star, someone who could play rugged and gritty, and they’ve done just that with Farrell, who is nearing a deal for the series’ older male lead.
Now, let’s also keep in mind that TheWrap is the same outlet that fell all over itself to tweet a “Twitter Exclusive” that the first script had leaked and it featured “one MALE lead and male/female co-stars,” which doesn’t exactly match up with the “four main characters” Pizzolatto was talking about yesterday. Does that mean they’re wrong now? No. And, to be honest, it doesn’t really even mean they were completely wrong then, depending on the semantics at play here. (“One MALE lead and male/female co-stars” is super vague.) I don’t know. Maybe I’m just grumpy after being burned too many times. What’s important here is TRUST NO ONE.
