‘Hercules’ Star Kevin Sorbo Is Not A Fan Of God Hating Atheists Or Ferguson Protestors

Kevin Sorbo has been a busy, busy man these past few months. We last talked about him when he was pissed that he wasn’t included in the newest Hercules movie alongside The Rock. Since then he’s been throwing shade at some bigger topics, namely religion and the protests in Ferguson.

His thoughts on Ferguson are summed up well in this quote from his now deleted Facebook post. From Huffington Post:

“Ferguson riots have very little to do with the shooting of the young man,” Sorbo wrote. “It is an excuse to be the losers these animals truly are. It is a tipping point to frustration built up over years of not trying, but blaming everyone else, The Man, for their failures. It’s always someone else’s fault when you give up. Hopefully this is a reminder to the African Americans ( I always thought we just Americans. Oh, well.) that their President the voted in has only made things worse for them, not better.”

Now he deleted that, but it’s been replaced by a retraction of sorts, calling it a post made “in haste” and that he “never said the protestors were animals,” clarifying that he meant the looters. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since he’s out to do some good and get people healthy a little farther down the page.

I’d rather focus on some comments he made about atheists a few days prior to busting out on Ferguson. He’s currently doing promotion for the DVD of God Is Not Dead, so it’s not a shock that the topic came up. You can listen to the entire segment above, but the key point is that atheists are angry because they secretly believe God exists and they hate him. From Mediaite:

“I know these guys must believe in something, otherwise they wouldn’t get so angry about it, and they don’t like the fact that there’s a higher power out there that’s judging how they live their life.”

Now I’ll freely admit I’m atheist. Not a very vocal one, even though my username was fairly blasphemous for a number of years. I’m still one of the group and I have my gripes with the organized religion. Usually stuff related to scummy televangelists like Pat Robertson or Paul Crouch, but it’s in my best interest to just ignore the stuff that doesn’t affect me.

The problem with Sorbo’s statement isn’t that he’s entirely wrong, it’s that his correct points are overwhelmed by the stupidity of his secondary points. The loud, obnoxious atheist groups that want to tear down crosses at Ground Zero are just as bad as any crazy church group you can find. They aren’t helping matters.

The stupidity begins when he says atheists are loud and angry because they secretly believe. It is probably the kinda stuff that keeps Richard Dawkins rolling in bed at night, filling up his adult diaper. It just doesn’t jive with the whole structure or lack of structure in atheism. It goes against the definition.

That’s the problem though because when people think atheists, they think about the people burning down churches and wanting to kill God. Then they pray for you.

The reality, for me at least, is much more boring. Do what you please, just leave me out of it. That’s not going to make for a great interview though, leaving audiences feeling a bit like Sorbo does in this clip.
