David Duchovny Is ‘More Than Happy’ To Bring Back ‘The X-Files,’ All But Guaranteeing Its Return

Was everyone’s birthday suddenly rescheduled for January? I ask for two reasons:

  1. Gillian Anderson told the gang at Nerdist she wants to reprise her role as Dana Scully in the The X-Files.
  2. FOX executives admitted they were discussing the possibility of an X-Files event series at the TCAs.

These are worth several birthdays in their own right, but there’s a new reason that takes the cake. In fact, it abducts the cake — just as creepy aliens would conspire with the American government to abduct a rather spooky individual’s younger sister. That’s right, folks — Fox Mulder wants to return to his old beat:

[David Duchovny] tells USA TODAY he’s “more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with (co-star) Gillian (Anderson) and (series creator) Chris (Carter).” (Via USA Today)

Not only that, but Duchovny let slip a few details about what the X-Files event series might look like:

On Tuesday, Duchovny, 54, said, “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season,” he said with a laugh. As long as the final product looks and sounds absolutely nothing like seasons eight and nine of the original series, I’m willing to eat all the birthday cake.
