Brian Williams will be edited out of PBS’s broadcast of the Lincoln Awards, a benefit concert for military veterans and their families.

Williams, who is currently on a six-month suspension from NBC’s “Nightly News,” hosted the event in January before the scandal broke that he had exaggerated his experiences reporting in Iraq. He will be replaced in the broadcast with a taped introduction by First Lady Michelle Obama:

Cappy McGarr, cofounder of the awards, said Williams voluntarily bowed out because he didn’t want to be a distraction.

The concert included appearances by Nick Jonas, Gavin DeGraw, and Jerry Lewis. Getting cut from the broadcast is a particular blow to Williams, however, because it included an appearance by Bruce Springsteen. Williams is a big fan of Springsteen, and Springsteen inducted Williams into the New Jersey Hall of Fame last year.
