Vince Vaughn Supports Guns In Schools: ‘Banning Guns Is Like Banning Forks’

Vince Vaughn covers the July issue of GQ to promote his role in HBO’s True Detective. The magazine released some excerpts, none of which involve the show. Vaughn discusses his collection of “assembly-line comedies” and, at first, blames no one but himself. Then he implies that script changes are responsible for his impressive streak of box-office bombs. Vaughn says he signs onto films, arrives on set, and finds “all the juice and the life” sucked out of a project. This dilemma makes him feel like “a hired gun.” Speaking of guns, Vaughn has thoughts on that subject too:

“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual…

Take mass shootings. They’ve only happened in places that don’t allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f*cking schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.”

Does Vince believe guns should be allowed in schools? “Of course.” Vince says politicians already send their kids to well-armed schools, so all citizens should do the same. Vince ends the subject with an analogy: “Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat…it won’t rid the world of criminality.”

Perhaps Vince dropped these controversial statements as a defense mechanism. The guy is used to starring in critically panned movies. He can’t even fathom how to promote a highly anticipated television show. Dude could be playing Jedi mind tricks on us, all so nobody else will ask why The Internship was so awful.
