‘Parks & Rec’ Showrunner: Amy Poehler Not Winning An Emmy Is ‘One Of The Great Hollywood Tragedies’

Somehow, against almost insurmountable odds, we haven’t given Amy Poehler an Emmy for her role as Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation yet. It’s crazy, really. She’s been nominated five times, and lost to, in chronological order, Edie Falco, Melissa McCarthy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. No slouches in there, to be sure, but as Parks and Rec showrunner Michael Schur pointed out in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, this is starting to get out of hand.

“It’s one of the great Hollywood tragedies that she hasn’t won an Emmy yet,” says Schur. “I watched this happen with Steve Carell—it’s a very similar thing—and I think the world just thinks that she’s won. She’s been an active part of the Emmy ceremony for years and years. I think people have a picture in their minds of her on a stage in a nice dress and are like, ‘oh, she’s won three times.’ No one can do what she did better than she did it. It’s hard to complain—Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a national treasure—but at the same time, I just hope and pray that somehow or another, this is Amy’s year.”

Sensible calls to reason like this are a good start, but let’s not rule out other options, too. Like, say, peer pressure. Come on, guys. Give Amy Poehler an Emmy for playing Leslie Knope. You won’t. You won’t give Amy Poehler an Emmy. You chickens. You gutless cowards. You gutless chicken cowards. It’s your last shot. Do it. Dooooooooo itttttttttttt.
