Of all the “If [Name] Dies, We Riot” memes that have taken off, the most widely used remains “If Daryl Dies, We Riot.” It’s The Walking Dead of comical threats.

There are phone cases, toys, and wristbands with the saying on it, as well as an entire topic page on Hot Topic’s website. There’s a $18 tank top girl out there for every $16.40 t-shirt guy.

Daryl himself, real-life badass Norman Reedus, has even chimed in. Comic Book Resources asked him at San Diego Comic-Con about rioting, and what the fan response is like for him.

“I like a good riot. I remember the LA riots, and I was like, ‘Why don’t we get the DMV? Let’s take down the DMV. Why are we taking down this store? Who needs a TV? Let’s burn the DMV!'”

So if Daryl dies, you would prefer your fans specifically riot at the DMV?

“Just go straight to the DMV, yeah. Take out all your anger at the DMV.” (Via)

The nice thing about the DMV is that you can’t tell if you’re in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, or if it’s just another day. That’s also the worst thing. Lucky for Daryl, there’s a family of delicious critters living in every DMV vending machine that hasn’t been restocked since 1975.
