Laura Prepon’s Interview About Scientology Is Full Of Baffling Nonsense

Laura Prepon, the woman we loved as Donna from That ’70s Show and respected as Alex Vause in Orange Is the New Black, conducted an interview with Celebrity Magazine this week, and she goes into extensive detail about her relationship with the Church of Scientology. Read a few paragraphs, and there’s no doubt how deep the church has reached inside her brain.

It’s a ludicrous interview, and, unlike a lot of celebrities who worship at the altar of L. Ron Hubbard, Prepon isn’t evasive or shy about speaking about her relationship with the church. In the interview, she spoke about getting started with the Church by taking the “Personal Values and Integrity” and “Overcoming Ups and Downs in Life” courses before moving her way up the “Bridge” after she got into the “Purification Rundown.” She also spoke about one of her “biggest cognitions in a New Era Dianetics session” — gobbledygook speak for “having a epiphany about her past” — and credits her extensive “auditing” to how she’s become such a relaxed and focused person. She cited, as an example, how she dealt with the stress involved in shooting a pilot she co-created after she had to scramble when they lost their location. “The fact that I had no irrational counter-emotion or reaction and just went into solution mode, I feel, is definitely a testament to my auditing.”

Okay.

It’s a lengthy and bizarre interview, but it hits peak WTF in this paragraph, when she is asked how auditing has helped her deal with rejection.

Another big realization I had in my auditing is that there is a bigger picture. This is my career but it does not define me. I am so much bigger than this career and industry. It’s my job and it’s very important to me, but, when I have huge wins in session, and when you really cognate that you are a thetan and you have a mind and body, and that the MEST universe does not control you—it puts things into perspective. It takes the weight off you and things become very easy.

“When you really cognate that you are a thetan”? What the hell does that mean? Whatever it means, she buys into it so deeply that she’s also a Scientology missionary, having converted the creator of a show she worked on years ago.

He had heard about Scientology, but had some altered viewpoints about it. After he worked with me, he came up said, “If you’re a Scientologist, I want to know about it, because you’re an amazing representation of what you’re doing over there.”

That was a huge compliment to me, because changing a person’s mind like that, changing his viewpoint just from working with him, that’s a huge win for me.

Cool story, bro.

At least she’s less defensive about her belief in Scientology than her That ’70s Show co-star Danny Masterson, who basically said to anyone that finds his beliefs weird, “you can go f*ck yourself.”

Don’t mind me. I’ll just be over here in the corner f*cking myself, then.
