New Viral Campaign Drops A Teaser For ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ On Netflix

UPDATE: According to a Netflix rep, “This was not released from Netflix and not anything official,” so it looks like this was fan-made after all.

Remember how it was announced that, among many other new and saved-from-network-cancellation shows, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was coming to Netflix? Oh, you forgot, did you? Well check out the reminder above, courtesy of a fairly recent YouTube account.

Interestingly, the account is named for Eleanora Poe, one of the book series’ principle characters. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the The Daily Punctillo, is Arthur Poe’s sister, and meets a rather ambiguous end in the story. Dark, depressing and demeaning, yes, but still ambiguous.

No cast, crew or actual footage makes it into the teaser, but that’s perfectly fine. Besides, it features the three things the series needs to overcome the massive disappointment that was the 2004 film starring Jim Carrey:

  1. Incredibly creepy music.
  2. Equally creepy visuals.
  3. The man himself, Count Olaf.

Also, spiders are the devil, so I’m perfectly happy with Olaf’s means of dispatching the teaser’s creepy crawler towards the end.
