Colin Jost Is No Longer The Head Writer Of ‘SNL’

Colin Jost, who joined SNL in 2005, is no longer the show’s head writer. Splitsider reports that Jost “has officially moved from co-head writer to the regular writing staff,” with Bryan Tucker and Rob Klein now splitting the duties; the change has already been reflected in the end credits.

Jost was hired to the writing staff back when it was overseen by Tina Fey, Seth Meyers and Andrew Steele, as a 22-year-old Harvard graduate. He became co-head writer in 2012, and along with Tucker and Klein, replaced Meyers when he went off to host Late Night. Jost is no longer running the show (technically, Lorne Michaels is “running the show,” and all comedy made in America, but you know what I mean), but he’ll continue writing for SNL, as well as anchoring Weekend Update. And rooting for the Mets.

The last time someone other than Jost, Meyers, or Fey was head writer? That would be back in season 24 (1998-99), when Adam McKay, who’d later go on to write Anchorman, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Step Brothers with Will Ferrell, oversaw a team that included Robert Smigel and Michael Schur. The golf community is not going to take this news well.
