‘Into The Badlands’ Is Now The Fall Season’s Top-Rated Debut

Sunday night saw the series premiere of AMC’s martial arts drama Into the Badlands. The pilot delivered captivating fight scenes and beautiful cinematography, and as TVLine reports, it also edged out Supergirl as the highest rated premiere of any new television show this fall.

Buoyed by its monster Walking Dead lead-in, the martial arts drama attracted 6.4 million viewers and a 3.2 demo rating, edging out NBC’s Blindspot and CBS’ Supergirl (which both bowed to a 3.1) as the fall’s top-rated freshman debut (broadcast or cable).

As packed as Sunday nights can get, having The Walking Dead as a lead-in is as solid of an assist as you can get. Promises of weekly fight scenes probably aren’t going to hurt either.

Even after AMC went from focusing on movies to critically acclaimed dramas, who would have thought that their Sunday night line-up would consist of zombies and martial arts?
