The ‘Adventure Time’ Miniseries Promises To Answer The Show’s Biggest Question

Cartoon Network’s episode scheduling for Adventure Time often makes little to no sense — there was one episode in June, another in July, then nothing until the two-part finale in November — so fans will take whatever they can get. The wildly imaginative animated show’s eighth and penultimate season doesn’t premiere until later in 2017, but to hold viewers over until then, Cartoon Network announced today that an eight-part miniseries will air beginning Monday, Jan. 30 and concluding Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Islands will get into one of the show’s biggest questions: Where the humans at? Or according to a press release, “In Adventure Time: Islands, Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada), Jake (John DiMaggio), BMO (Niki Yang), and Susan Strong (Jackie Buscarino) leave the Land of Ooo to embark on a quest of epic proportions across the ocean and into new lands—encountering new creatures, discovering new islands and using teamwork along the way.” There are very few humans left in the Land of Ooo; most of them were wiped out in the Mushroom War. It was once thought that Finn was the only known human, but Susan Strong is one, too, which is why she’s on the voyage with Finn and Jake. As for BMO, well, BMO should come along on every adventure.

Islands will also be released on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play ahead of the Cartoon Network premiere, on Jan. 24.
