Details Tumble Out On Caitlyn Jenner’s Role In The Upcoming Third Season Of ‘Transparent’

America has had a difficult time accepting change throughout history, everything from people of color, women and homosexuals, with transgender people now the center of strange bathroom controversies. Caitlyn Jenner has done a lot for helping the public to accept the idea of transgenderism, even if at times her political beliefs are a bit in contrast with her gender identity. Amazon’s original series Transparent perhaps came along at the perfect time and inviting Jenner to guest star on the show made a lot of sense.

Variety spoke with Transparent showrunner Jill Soloway about Jenner’s guest spot in the upcoming third season, spilling the beans on what the role will really be.

“She’s in a dream sequence. [Gaby Hoffmann’s character] Ali has a kind of wild, nitrous-inspired goddess-worshiping dream sequence, and you can’t talk about the goddess without Ntozake Shange and Caitlyn Jenner who are both in the dream.”

That would be a sort of crazy dream, wouldn’t it? Being in a room with black feminist playwright Ntozake Shange and Olympian-turned-reality-television-star-turned-trans-rights-activist Caitlyn Jenner? Yet it perfectly fits the tone that was set in the first two seasons of Amazon’s Transparent of a strange, dysfunctional family dealing with their father coming out as a woman to them. Ali, the youngest of the bunch, was always a bit of a wildcard and her on a nitrous-fueled binge just sounds like something she’d do.

Season three of Transparent is set to drop on Amazon on September 23rd.
