When an actor says they “wouldn’t rule out” something, whether it’s returning to a previous role or resurrecting a long-dormant franchise, that’s usually celebrity-to-fan speak for, “It’s not going to happen.” Of course Lizzy Caplan would love another season of Party Down, and of course Zach Galligan wants to star in Gremlins 3, and of course, wait, did Chris Pratt just say, “I would never rule it out” in regards to a Parks and Recreation reunion?
I should know better than to get excited, but: He did!
While appearing on the Sway in the Morning radio show, Pratt, who’s making the promotional rounds for Passengers, took a call from a Johnny Karate fan who wanted to know if “we’re ever going to see the greatest FBI agent, Burt Tyrannosaurus Macklin, in another season of Parks and Rec?” He responded, “It’s hard to say. I would never rule it out. There’s jobs that I’ve done in the past where I could safely say I would never do that again” — I hope he doesn’t mean naked guitar play on The O.C. — “but Parks and Rec is not one of them.”
Pratt continued, “We did do seven seasons, y’know, somewhere along the lines of 150 episodes, so eventually you start running out of stories to tell, but because of the nature of that show kind of mimicking time, I definitely wouldn’t rule out seeing it again, seeing us get back together for a movie, or for another season down the line, a possible spinoff, or whatever.” He added that he loves Andy Dwyer, who Pratt poured his “heart and soul” into playing, because “he’s the personification of everything about me that is comedic.”
If anyone can bring back Parks, it’s Burt Macklin, that son of a bitch.
