All The Tidbits We Gleaned From FX’s New ‘Legion’ Teasers

Marvel’s mutant heroes are coming to the small screen with Legion this February. To get audiences hyped, FX has released a string of short videos, each ten to fifteen seconds, showing what David Haller, the unstable anti-hero of the title, can do, and just who might be screwing with him. And if you glance quickly, you’ll find plenty to take apart in just these little clips.

David’s Had Issues For A Long, Long Time

These clips really underscore that David’s struggle with figuring out what’s real and what isn’t are an ongoing thing. As you can see from the clip, there’s a lot of visual cues implying we’re seeing a younger Dave talk to his therapist (Scott Lawrence, who intriguingly is a recurring character according to the IMDB), who he doesn’t entirely trust. Of course, that could also be due to people hiding in the closet calling his name. That would probably mess with you just a bit.

Then there’s what he sees in the MRI:

It sure looks a lot like David’s perceptions can shift on him, depending on what happens to him, and he can go in an MRI and wake up in an empty room, or reality changes depending on what he perceives people to be. He also seems to flash back to his childhood a lot, so we’re assuming that he’s wished at least one poor sucker into the cornfield or something.

The Government Doesn’t Think He’s Mentally Ill

This promo, by far the most conventional of the five, is pretty straightforward. David thinks that whenever his powers kick in, he’s seeing things. But the government thinks he’s an insanely powerful mutant, a situation that will surely not go wrong when they inevitably try to turn him into a super-soldier. And that might well be another part of David’s past…

Of Course The Government Experiments Went Wrong

One actor who turns up quite a bit in these promos, and whom we know almost nothing about, is Hamish Linklater, who’s credited as “The Interrogator.” Not ominous at all! This clip clearly shows David and a few friends escaping from a government facility, as well as crushing a bunch of dudes with a rock. Clips from this scene have been scattered throughout the trailers, and we see David chucking burning trucks, tossing soldiers like ragdolls, and generally acting the way you’d expect an angry unjustly imprisoned superperson to behave.

Interestingly, you’ll also find this Interrogator creeping through the woods, trying to hunt David down. So we may see more of David’s, uh, government interactions in the series. We’ll find out this February.
