The New ‘Gotham’ Season 3 Poster Foreshadows The Rise Of The Owls

It’s the week of San Diego Comic-Con, meaning anything and everything superhero-related is about to get a huge push of new advertising material. In keeping with this being the prime week of the year to promote television shows and movies, FOX has released a new poster for the third season of the hit before-Batman-was-Batman television series Gotham, exclusive to Zap2It. It looks like in addition to a new Poison Ivy, and going in on Donald Trump, there’s a new villain –- or, villains –- in town in Season 3. That’s right: the Court of Owls are coming. While they’ve been a part of the show for some time now, the poster effectively clarifies that Season 3 of Gotham will heavily feature the Court of Owls.

The Court of Owls first appeared in Batman #1 (2011). Created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, they functioned as a sort of shadowy Illuminati made up of anonymous mask-wearing men and women who had been functioning as Gotham’s puppeteers for years when Batman discovered them. It appears that little will be changing as they make their way into the show. Last season we discovered that they were the ones funding Hugo Strange’s gruesome experiments, and it looks like their menace will become even more evident in Season 3. There will almost certainly be more revealed at the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, but until then, fans can bask in this major reveal. It looks like Season 3 is gonna be a hoot.
