Kevin Smith Really Wants To Direct ‘Daredevil’ And ‘The Defenders’

Kevin Smith just tossed his hat in the ring to helm upcoming episodes of Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders.

The director, who’s currently making the rounds at the Edinburgh Film Festival to promote his latest flick Yoga Hosers, geeked out to IGN over the possibility of being involved in the yet-to-be-scheduled Marvel projects. Smith already spearheaded an episode of The Flash on the CW and he has plans to direct another this fall. It seems he’s gotten a taste for comic-book-TV-crossovers.

I feel very at home in that Flash world, so much so that I’d love to do the others. I even told [Marvel chief creative officer] Joe Quesada – we worked on Daredevil together back in the day, I wrote it, he drew it – I said, ‘Dude, I want to direct Daredevil, man. That’d be wild to be able to do it in real-life – let’s co-direct it, that’d be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen.

Smith’s totally serious about this. He went on to share how he’s been stalking Executive Vice President of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb and how he’d be the best choice to to direct The Defenders too.

You know, they’re gearing up now for The Defenders. If I can get a piece of that Defenders mini-series holy s**t, could you imagine, dude? Because then you’re working with multiple suits at once, that’d be phenomenal. Just doing a mini Avengers – even one episode of that run of Defenders is like, ‘oh, I get to exercise any interest I had in Avengers but doing it on a scale where nobody’s betting $200 million on the guy that made f**kin’ Yoga Hosers.’

It kind of seems like a no-brainer to have Smith — a self-processed comic book nerd and lover of all things Marvel — take creative control over at least one episode of either show. Who’s going to do that world more justice than its ultimate fanboy?
