Lady Gaga’s Character In ‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’ Has A Major Connection To ‘Coven’

Lady Gaga has not had a tremendous amount of screen time so far in this season of American Horror Story: Roanoke, and there’s a good reason for that. Ahead of episode six’s major twist coming up Wednesday night, Ryan Murphy spoke to the press Tuesday and explained that the singer’s busy schedule with her new album coming out made it difficult to commit too much time to filming this summer, however he made sure that the role she did play would be an important one.

As it turns out, Gaga’s character of “The Witch” isn’t just any old scalping, mass slaughtering, Cuba Gooding Jr.-boinking witch, but she is the witch — as Murphy confirmed that she’s actually the original Supreme from Coven. And also: She’ll be back.

“We’re going to do a return to the ‘Coven’ season in some capacity,” Murphy told The Huffington Post. “So that character will be further explored then.”

“I knew that this character was important to the mythology of the show, and I really wanted her to play that character,” Murphy said, adding that “the return-to-’Coven’ season” won’t be Season 7.

Murphy also gave some insight into the twist itself, which will involve the main cast show’s core cast, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates, playing different roles in the second half of the season. And although the first part of the season was sadly lacking in Evan Peters, apparently that all will change in episode six which will feature Peters in a pivotal role, as Murphy put it, ” the greatest, most hilarious things Evan has ever done.”

But that’s not all! With Gaga looking to have wrapped up her time on the season, Murphy also teased two fan favorites who will be coming back at some point.

Finn Wittrock is coming back soon, playing his most f–ked-up character of all time. To the point where he was like, ‘This is so crazy that I don’t know that I can do it, but I’ll do it.’ And Taissa Farmiga is coming back for the first time ever since Coven, in I think a really, really great part and we love her. We’re very excited—she’s a part of our world and always will be, and I always wanted her to come back.

The most effed up character of all time? The mother-murdering, clown suit-wearing, conjoined-twin obsessed, frequently half naked and shiny mess that was Dandy Mott will be a hard act to follow. But if anyone can pull it off…
